The Mystique of Aged Romance and the Epilogues of Megan, herself
~ Excerpt ~
Kissing her with a gentleness that can only mean love, she felt like a treasure to him, and to her, well, he was the long awaited trust revived, and she knew it was all going to be right. No fear. God already had this reunion planned.
You know, Jeremiah tells us that God has good plans for us to give us a hope and a future.
The future was now for Kyle and Megan.
As she turned to leave, saying, “I’ll be here at 10:30 to pick you up for a tour of Ludington, and then lunch at the cottage.”
He said, “I’ll be ready and I can hardly wait.”
Driving away slowly, waving, he blew her a kiss and then turned to walk to his room.
The night was dark with crystal clear stars above. Snowy streets glistened from street lamps, and her car lights cut a beam through the quiet winters night as she drove, and pulling into the driveway, the entire beauty of a small cottage with her business, hit her with a sense of traditional America, and the wonder of having this new gift of love overwhelmed her.
Getting out, her boots crunched in the snow and the lamp inside the cottage glowed softly.
Honey Bird would be waiting, but she didn't hurry,
Walking up the steps of the porch, she turned to look back at the lovely neighborhood scene of homes, where soft lights glowed and a few porch lights beckoned someone, thinking of how blessed her life was. Tears welled up in eyes that were full of such hope and quiet joy, there was no holding back the emotion inside. Standing still, she listened to the night, until finally, the moment was complete.
Opening the door, she heard the sound of tiny feet jumping down from his perch, and she greeted him with a “I'm home, Honey Bird.”
Dropping her purse on the floor beside her glider she sat down without taking her coat off, and for awhile, there was nothing to do but simply be happy, thinking about the completed circle that had just been fulfilled. That was the feeling she had so deep inside, it left no room for doubt. Knowing why he suddenly stopped communicating, and that he came all the way to Michigan to set the record straight, confirmed his intent from the beginning. Eight years of wondering was all cleared up in one single day of joyful reunion, with truth being the catalysts that brought them back together, trust had been restored.
And she was deeply honored.
Their meeting in Gardiner was misunderstood at first, but now, she knew, that they had always been intended for the future in clarity. Once they connected by email, she knew her trust have been vindicated, but when he stopped writing, she felt desperately alone and betrayed once more.
And for all those long, silent, wondering years; she would not know that she had not right to put her trust in him that day on the boardwalk, until today.
But, God already knew everything about her life and Kyle's, and in His care for both of them had seen to it that he survived the accident, and she had come home to family, her cottage and her shop. And in that mix of life, she had time with Paul to clear their consciousnesses, before his passing.
This is a think-about-it moment for readers and listeners.
That's the lesson of her novels. Breaking trusts destroys lives. And, distrust had kept Megan from the joy of knowing real love for many years. She chose solitary as a life because of that.
Humans are flawed, all of us. But, during those years, wisdom was gained, so nothing was lost, because time is in God's hands, and He knew us before we were born, has our lives in His hands as well.
Mistakes and sin delay the joy of truthfully understanding His plans for us, but then, yes, then, when faith and love abide in one's heart, He can turn what was meant for evil to good. Just keep that tiny kernel of faith alive and let it grow, because if the pain of hurt takes hold, life becomes miserable, and not only that, bitterness will grow instead of hope.
Time is God's perfect answer to life, and we get out of step with His plans, but finally, this plan was coming together for two old people that wanted to share love again, together.
Kyle came to Michigan just to find her and set the record straight. And they are now an aged couple experiencing the kind of gentle love that goes far beyond the landscape of the superficial fantasies, to a deep and abiding, love, and compassionate future.
Yes, God's timing is perfect.
